GIMP 2.8 is now available as a native application for Mac OS X without the need for a X11-Environment.
The ported version does require Snow Leopard or higher and can be downloaded from the website of one of its developers at: Partha’s Place.
The following command creates a ssh tunnel to a remote server on OSX. Emulating a Socks 4/5 proxy on localhost:8080.

There seems to be some progress on getting OpenNI going on the Mac. PrimeSense has also joined the effort. Currently they are working on getting the NITE Middleware going. NITE provides basic hand and skeleton tracking on top of OpenNI.
