In cooperation three Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany have developed a TOF Laserscanner that is using MEMS Micromirror technoloy. The device has 22 mirrors and allows for measurements of up to 30 meters. With a scanning speed of 1.6 KHz it will be possible to scan moving objects.
The device will be shown at Vision in Stuttgart from 4. bis 6. November 2014

Microsoft Research has released Information about a 3D Reconstruction App that runs on Windows Mobile. As far as the technology is concerned hardly anything new. It’s basically the same as Autodesks 123D Catch that is available on severall platforms with the actual image processing happening on the server.
The App looks very nice though, it comes with an acceleromteter supported visual guide that helps the user to capture all required images for a successfull 3D model construction.
A beautiful volumetric display build from a screen rotating at high speed. Interesting idea, I don’t want to be in the room if there is a mechanical failure though.
Another take on the volumetric display concept comes from Sony. The prototype rotates vertical lines of LEDs around its center to form a 3D image.
